“Listen to yourself and in that quietude, you might hear the voice of God.” Maya Angelou.
Coming across this quote a few days ago reminded me of why I wrote the book “Dare Be You: Greatness Awaits”. The words “Dare To be you” came into my mind very powerfully one Sunday morning. This was at the point in my life where I was at a crossroad and was wondering and wandering about what I should with my life.
The personal dilemma, I was in at that time was the question, what do I do with myself that will make me better fulfilled? Well at that particular point, had resigned from my 8-5 job and I wanted to transition into doing business.
To take you back, the job I had just left was Human Resource job with a multinational company. Before that I had been a corporate trainer in the same company. Before going into training, I had worked as customer service representative. Before I landed into customer care, I had left a Public Service post, Yes! I had worked with the Public Administration as a District Officer in one of the Divisions in the former Eastern province. To cut the long story short, let me hold my CV here.
At that point where I needed to ‘dare to be me’, I couldn’t define who I was, because I had no job title to hold to. All the time that i been in employment, I used job titles to define myself and would introduce myself and say “I am Winnie and I am Human Resources Officer in this company”, or “I am Winnie I am a Public Administrator”. Well, without a job title I was finding it difficult to define myself and hence I was feeling stuck and unable to pinpoint what business I should embark on.
The message of daring to be myself, drove me into a quest to understand human behaviour and drove me into history, biology, philosophy, and psychology; subjects that are naturally very appealing to me, to look for answers. I wanted to understand what makes life fulfilling? How do I chart a new road map for my life even when I look back and see my life as a series of crossroads and I can’t seem to find a pattern I can rely on to move forward?
Well, the quest led me into documenting the lessons and knowledge I was gathering into a book, I titled’ Dare Be You; Greatness Awaits. The greatest lesson I learnt was:
When faced with a major decision, listen,
When there’s lack of clarity, look inside and listen,
When you are confused and don’t know what to do, listen,
Because answers are also available within you,
if you can only listen and explore inwards.
When you look inwards you will understand that there is something that is deposited in you from the beginning. And also you will see that your journey whether straight or full of crossroads is helping you unfold to be the best you can be . Hence Dare Be You Greatness Awaits .
