Uncage: How to Break Free from Inner Barriers to success is a personal development book launched this month by author Winnie Tanui. Coming hot on the heels of her first book: Dare Be You Greatness Awaits:7 Steps to Jumpstart the Journey Towards Being the Person You are Meant to be, launched in 2019.

Nobody wants to find obstacles on their journey towards achieving their dreams and aspiration. Yet despite the good intentions of most of the obstacles, you encounter on your way you actually placed them there?. This is what the author calls self-created cages hence the title of the book: Uncage.
But, how does one place obstacles on their way, when what you wake up to do every day is striving to succeed in all areas of your life including career, health, wealth, and relationships? .The author explains that we place obstacles in our way because much of our thinking is done subconsciously, and hence much of what motivates our action is what is underneath behavior we display is just the tip of the iceberg. The real problems are beneath.

Uncage is a personal development book written to help readers go beyond the surface to understand mishaps and misfires in the self-actualization journey. The author hopes to take the reader through a journey of self-interrogation to understand one’s habits and behavior and see how some behavior and habits could be holding them from realizing their potential. Everyone dreams and hopes for great things in life especially when you are a teenager. As a teenager, many people have a clear dream of what they want to do with their life, what they hope to achieve, what kind of family they intend to have, what places they would like to visit, how much money they would like to have and many more grand the dreams.
But then life happens and the dreams are relegated to the back as more pressing demands in life arise. But, Connecting or disconnecting from dreams stems from thoughts, behaviors, and habits. The author tries to take the reader through a journey of self-interrogation to understand one’s thoughts, habits, and behaviors in the attempt to point out that success is built through thoughts, habits, and behaviors, hence to achieve success one have to deal with thoughts, behaviors, and habits.
The Uncage is about shifting one’s mindset from an imaginary self-limiting cage, that one may be in without knowing because much of human thinking is done subconsciously. Other than just pointing out the limiting habits and behavior the author makes a deliberate attempt at incorporating expert knowledge on how to overcome such habits.

Uncage would make an inspiring read for anyone, but more so for those in career transition points. These include those who finished school and are seeking to be hired. Those who have been at work and are getting tired and are seeking to understand what else they can do. Or even those who were fired and or their jobs affected by the Pandemic and wondering what to. Even those who retired and what to keep themselves busy can find ideas shared useful for jumpstarting their career journey.
